# 18 Google Docs

I like google so much that I'm thinking about naming my first born, google.

ok no, not really but I would love to work there...

I like using GoodleDocs because it's an easy way to share documents with friends and co-workers. I use this when I write papers and have someone update or fix grammatical errors.

This could be very useful for the newsletter. Staff with access to the Newsletter can read and edit grammar all from different locations in the library.

Although I'm not a fan of PB, I like wiki. This tool could be useful within the library staff- like for important announcements, but would be best used for sharing ideas.

Where to Find a Good Wiki

Wiki

I think it's interesting that people all over the world can use the wiki websites. People that speak different languages can access wiki and contribute to the website itself. Staff can use wikipedia and other wiki websites to search for certain book titles and type in keywords to search materials, and research topics that pertain to the library.
Library Success: A Best Practices Wiki
was interesting because it was a whole wiki devoted to Libraries. It had stuff from gaming, technology and training, to searching for a job through tags and keywords.

Library 2.0

Icebergs highlight some of the issues that libraries face today with technology. I think that it is difficult to make certain decisions pertaining to technology. The disappearance of certain reference books and “just in case” collections is a growing fact. Technology is great and makes research easier, but there are still many obstacles, to be discussed.

While the more technology driven generation and advocates may enjoy coming to the library to be helped by robots and all kinds of futuristic machines there are those that would not. In this very complicated world there are always going to be people who are open-minded and thrive on change and those who need the print “just in case” collection. The major difference between the two groups is directly correlated with experience. A patron that uses the self check out machine is most likely to go online and do research for a paper than the one who would prefer to come into the library. Therefore programs like Library Geek are very useful tools in helping open minded individuals, overcome and learn how to navigate technology.
The Library can benefit from “tags” especially in the program department. I think that by placing tags on Library Programs and linking certain programs together, such as crafts, movies etc. Patrons could click on a topic of interest and through tags obtain information in groups. They can even subscribe to certain tags to let them know when these programs would become available, just as they receive e-mails about the holds they place.

technorati

This website has pictures which I love, but I feel like the actual search engine for blogs is not good enough. If you type in Oscar's it comes up with film school blogs and stuff that I really didn't want to see. Then I scroll down the list and finally get a blog with the title Oscar in it. I would expect that link to be at the top of my search.
The top 100 blogs were interesting.
#1 was The Huffington Post- that was a bit surprising to me because I feel like normally gossip and technology would beat out politics.
But don't worry TMZ.com | Celebrity Gossip about Charlie Sheen didn't trail to far behind.

Del.icio.us

I'm not exactly a fan of Delicious. I think that the webpage layout is not visually appealing. I like pictures and icons all of which are not part of the website.

I the fact that you can see your bookmarked websites. The library could definitely incorporate this especially for librarians, by bookmarking websites that they often use. Delicious makes these websites easily available in researching at various computers in the library.

#12 Rollyo

This was harder to do then the rest because when I search topics I usually look through the websites to find a site that looks trust worthy. I don't have set places where I look to each time.
I created a search rolls that most people probably use on a daily basis. I called it am I sick? The reason I did that was because people are always looking up symptoms online to see if they have some death threatening illness. Sometime these sites might be helpful but many times these site just scare people- because they end up thinking they're dying.
This could help to job searches- and other websites to help weed out ads and sites that are not trust worthy.
